The United Kingdom

Population : 59 million
Currency : Pound Sterling (£)

The UK is definitely not Europe’s finest destination if you are looking for warm weather and beach parties. What it does offer though is wonderfully diverse scenery and a nation steeped in fascinating history and tradition.

Those traveling to the UK with fantasies of ghost tours through old cities like London and Edinburgh and visiting stunning medieval castles will not be disappointed. The country also has much to offer in terms of beautiful landscapes with areas such as The Brecon Beacons, The Lake District and The Scottish Highlands being particularly popular with visitors with a passion for walking.

The island offers tremendous contrasts to the visitor. From the sprawling metropolitan mass of London with its numerous world famous attractions to quiet rural towns that can reinforce the quintessential tea drinking, English stereotype. The UK has something to offer both the short and long term visitor, with many of the major cities housing substantial backpacking communities and providing casual work for travelers.
